Area condo conversions a sign of housing crunch

"WENATCHEE - The region's influx of retiring baby boomers and a lack of affordable housing for first-time buyers have sparked local entrepreneurs to convert old apartment buildings into condo units.
Statistics that would document the rate of conversion aren't readily available. But real estate agents say they've noticed a trend. "What instigates it is the lack of affordable housing and the fact that our lifestyles are kind of wanting to have more free time and less large yards to take care of," said local agent Jaimie Wallace. "This is a newer thing, but it's been popular in the Seattle area."
